Index initializing taking forever

mine is stuck in initializing as well even though the status page says this issue is resolved.

Im having the same issue in asia-southeast1-gcp, stuck in initializing

still stuck - taking forever. asia-southeast1-gcp

I am also stuck initializing

I’m having the exact same problem, please help me

Same problem in asia-southeast1-gcp.

I am trying to setup my first index and the initialization seems to be frozen. I am on the free plan and located in the US. The environment assigned to me is ā€˜asia-southeast1-gcp’. Please advise.

EDIT The initialization took a little over an hour. The index status is ā€˜Ready’ now.

I am still facing this issue! Not resolved yet. Been more than 5 hours.

I’m in the same situation.

Hello team,

I accidentally deleted the index containing my data instead of just deleting the data, and I attempted to create a new index and insert my embeddings. However, the status of the index remained ā€œInitializingā€ for around 12 hours before changing to ā€œInitializationFailed.ā€

I’m now uncertain whether to delete the index and start again or wait for the situation to improve. I’m hesitant to delete the index because I’m unsure how long it will take to create a new index, and I don’t want index creation to be disabled.

Could you please advise on whether I should wait or recreate the index? I’m also wondering if it’s possible for the current index to start functioning properly on its own, or if starting from scratch is necessary.

Go to Organization → Project, delete your default project and create a new one with a different environment than the one having issues (check status.pinecone.io)

My new index took less than 20 seconds.

Yeap, that did the trick!

thanks!

For others seeing this, if you see InitializationFailed you should first delete the index and try creating an index again in the same project.

When I try to create an index I get the error:

Index test failed to create. Index creation is disabled for this environment, please try a different environment.

I’m on the Starter Plan.
It was working ok last week.

Please can you tell me how to reenable index creation?

Thanks,
Damian.

Sorry, I’ve just seen this has already been asked previously.

My index on northamerica-northeast1-gcp has been initializing for five days.

Let me repeat that. Five days. (Since April 9, 2023)

I can’t delete it because it’s initializing.
I also can’t delete the project it’s in, because it has an ā€œactive indexā€.
Despite being ā€œactiveā€, I cannot use the index, because it is initializing.
I cannot make another project or index, because the maximum for free tier is one.

I could make a new account but now it says ā€œNew users for the Starter (free) plan may be waitlisted.ā€

The only option is to upgrade.
The cheapest plan is $70 per month.

I didn’t want to be rude, so I had ChatGPT generate an ā€œappropriateā€ exclamation for me:

By the whiskers of Archimedes! What astonishing tomfoolery have we here?

@andai, what’s the name of your index? We’ll see about getting it deleted so you can start again.

And I completely understand your frustration. Waiting for five days for something that should take a few minutes to be ready must be incredibly aggravating. Just know that we at Pinecone hear you and are working around the clock to handle the influx of thousands of new free customers this week. We ask for a little more patience while we get in front of this wave of incredible passion and support from the community.

@Cory_Pinecone Is upgrading from free an option to resolve this? This is pretty ridiculous!

In the same spot for days and the other stuck-initializing post specifically says not to upgrade to resolve this so that is the only reason I’m not upgrading now. Can you confirm whether or not this will ever finish? I do not mean to be sarcastic - I just mean is it broken and will be hung here forever until involving your support team, or will it eventually complete when it gets to me in the queue? I don’t want to be the guy that sits patiently for a week or more when I should have taken a couple steps to get up and running sooner, ya know? That being said if it really is just wait-it-out then of course that’s what I’ll do.

If I start a brand new account and pay from the get go (eg skip free entirely) will I be able to start a new index in a datacenter that isn’t hosed?

My index name is auto-gpt-7ec222a.svc.northamerica-northeast1-gcp.pinecone.io in case there’s anything that can be done to help.

same problem. Stuck with initializing. Name of the index auto-gpt.
