Inquiry Regarding Backup, Snapshot Scheduling, and Cross-Region Replication on Standard Plan

We are currently using Pinecone under the Standard plan to support our application As part of our Disaster Recovery (DR) testing and compliance procedures, we would appreciate your guidance on the following:

  1. Automatic Backups and Index Restore:
  • Does the Standard plan include automatic backups and index restore capabilities?
  • If not, which plan provides these features and what is the associated pricing?
  1. Data Snapshots:
  • Is there a way to configure data snapshots at specific intervals (e.g., hourly, daily)?
  • If so, how can this be managed or automated?
  1. Cross-Region Replication:
  • Does Pinecone support cross-region index replication?
  • If yes, could you provide documentation or guidance on how to set this up?
  • Also, please confirm which plan includes this functionality and the pricing details if available.

These capabilities are essential to ensure compliance with our internal policies and industry regulations, especially given our role in healthcare and legal data management.

Hey @nshah, thanks for the questions.

  1. We currently do not support continuous backups and live index restore (to the same index). It’s on our roadmap for Q3. Today, you can create a new index from a backup.
  2. While we don’t offer a native service to automatically create backups (also in the roadmap for Q3), you could use the API to automate it.
  3. We currently do not support cross-region replication. It’s on our roadmap for Q3/Q4.
