I’m currently using the Starter (free) plan in my Team, and I’ve noticed some unexpected behavior with storage reporting.
My index consistently reaches the 2GB quota limit throughout the day, but the reported “Storage Used” suddenly drops back down to around 0.5GB — and this cycle repeats multiple times daily. Importantly:
- I am not deleting vectors or recreating the index.
- My project is continuously active with regular upserts and queries.
- I am not hitting inactivity limits (the index is never idle for more than a few minutes).
- The drop appears to happen automatically, without my intervention.
This seems different from the known 7-day inactivity archiving, and I haven’t found documentation or reports that explain this high-frequency storage fluctuation. I’m wondering:
- Is this expected behavior due to compaction or internal optimization?
- Is it a UI/reporting bug in the dashboard metrics?
- Could the backend be discarding or rolling data due to quota enforcement?
